Today we had a great day going when suddenly the refrigerator stopped cooling. Sweety said that the temperature in the refrigerator was 60 degrees, and when she tried to get ice from the ice dispenser, well, let's just say, it was slush.
So our son started checking it out...sure enough the coils were completely covered in ice. Youngun wanted to defrost the coils, but that would have been a waste of ice, so we carefully broke some of the ice off of the unit and enjoyed some cold drinks.
Then someone said that the meat in the freezer was going to thaw out, and that would be bad. So after fretting over what to do, we noticed that today was the coldest day we have had in Texas in several months. It was 32 degrees outside. Well, out the freezer meat went, onto the table outside.
The funny part of all this is that we have had only one other cold day several months back and it tied with this one. Today's high was 38. It is funny that the refrigerator picked the only day that it would be this cold in Texas to freeze up. Cool.
So after some thawing and cleaning, the refrigerator was started again. Things seem to be working better now. Mutt is happy because he has never seen so much meat sitting out in the open for him to drool over. Sweety is happy because her food was not ruined. Our son is happy because he got to show us how good he can fix a refrigerator, and I am happy because Mutt left the food alone.
But that does bring up something I miss. A couple of years ago, we had about 6 inches of snow. It was really beautiful. However it was awful hard to drive with 6 inches of snow on the windshield of our car. It was even harder to drive in falling snow with your head stuck out of the window trying to see,...(the heater was broken.) I had to keep wiping my face and trying to keep my eyes open all the way to the grocery store. We only scared a few people in near misses on the way. However we got our groceries and it was easier driving back, since some of the snow had fallen off of the windshield by then.
Since there was so much snow on the ground, we wanted to make a big snowman. So we went outside to start our project. Unfortunately as things go in Texas, by the time we did, there was hardly any snow left. So we built one of those miniature snowmen. It stood 4 inches tall by the time we finished it. Couldn't find any small pieces of coal for the eyes, so we used buttons. It was cute for about 30 minutes, until Mutt ate it. (Don't worry, he knocked off he buttons before he chowed down.)
This year we were planning to build a great big snowman, but so far all we have gotten is wet leaves. Perhaps we can get out there with some glue and some creative spirit and make a leaf snowman. My question is, will white paint stick to wet leaves? Probably not. Oh well, so much for making a snowman this year. Besides Mutt will go crazy barking and keep us up all night with something looking like a man standing in our front yard.
Oh well, there will be other winters, other snow storms, and hope for a day when we build the biggest snowman in the neighborhood. However the way things go for me, the snowman will roll down the hill from our house and trash some cars along the way.
Well, that's it for today....Ice anyone?
